Commitment Defense Unit Counsel
Salary: APD base salary* plus $500/month CDU differential
Job Description: This position is dedicated to the representation of Public Defender clients in Sexually Violent Predator (CDU) cases under §632.480 RSMO. The CDU law is a civil involuntary commitment procedure including trial by jury in probate court. The attorneys are primarily responsible for the preparation and trial of CDU cases, including commitment and release proceedings. The caseload for each attorney is anticipated to be 6-12 new cases annually plus follow-up litigation of petitions for release. Position covers the entire state. Overnight travel will be necessary.
Location is yet to be determined.
Qualifications: Must be a member of the Missouri Bar.
*APD Base Salary- APD I: $2,929/month (starting salary)
- APD II: $3,474/month (eligible for consideration after 6 months' successful service)
- APD III-IV: $3,857-$4,738/month (eligible for consideration after continued highly successful performance)
