Salary: $2314/month
Job Description: Individual in this position works under the direction of an attorney in a capacity that involves substantial, non-clerical legal work that requires a sufficient knowledge of legal concepts and would be performed by an attorney in the absence of the paralegal. Work is self-directed and focused on handling all aspects of legal representation in assigned cases and relieves the attorney of all but legally required duties of the attorney. Duties include case planning, development, and management; legal research; interviewing clients; drafting and analyzing legal documents; collecting, compiling, and utilizing technical information to make an independent decision and recommendation to the assigned attorney regarding the case; and assisting lawyers at trial.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited
four-year college or university with specialization in law, paralegal
studies, or a closely
related field; or a minimum of four years law-related experience including
at least two years as a Clerk IV - Legal Assistant with the Missouri
State Public Defender System or similar position with another state
agency. Knowledge and experience with substance-abuse related issues
is preferred but not required.
