The pay plan of the Missouri State Public Defender System conforms with the classification principles of Uniform Classification & Pay adopted by agencies in the Executive Branch of Missouri State Government. Under Missouri's Uniform Classification & Pay Plan, the principal goal is to pay all state employees consistently for comparable work.
The majority of job classes in the Public Defender system are assigned to a pay range and step.
Attorney Salaries
There are four salary classifications (I-IV) for Assistant Public Defenders (APD). Attorney salaries range from $38,040/year to $77,809/year with additional salary differentials for APDs handling exclusively death-penalty work. Managing attorneys start at $69,888/year.
